Our Historic Facility
A native of North Carolina, Dr. Rufus Alston Roberts (1837-1906) settled in Cedar Hill in 1859. After serving as a Confederate Army surgeon, he returned to this area, where he became a prominent physician and helped bring the Grand Central and Santa Fe Railroad Lines through Cedar Hill. In politics, Dr. Roberts was a Democrat and had the distinction of serving as a delegate to many state and county conventions.
Roberts closely supervised the construction of this two-story, ornately detailed home when he built it for his family in 1884. This late Victorian-style house features jig-sawn work on the porch and stick-style brackets that adorn the 2nd story gable.

Dr. Roberts built his medical office on the rear of the home. As the oldest known standing structure in Cedar Hill, the "Gingerbread House," as it has come to be known, carries a Texas State Historical Marker and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The building has served many diverse uses over the years, but only now does it again function to aid the delivery of medical care to Cedar Hill and the surrounding communities. Please visit us at our beautiful historic facility, which we have lovingly restored to maintain its unique Victorian elegance while simultaneously creating a technologically modern medical office.
